WE ARE DEEPLY SADDENED TO ANNOUNCE THE TRAGIC AND UNTIMELY PASSING OF RETIRED SERGEANT HARVEY "SANDY"CROSTHWAITE JR. SERGEANT CROSTHWAITE PASSED AWAY ON MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 2026, AT THE AGE OF 61, SURROUNDED BY THOSE HE LOVED MOST IN THE WORLD. HE IS SURVIVED BY HIS LOVING WIFF, ERLINDA GALLEGOS-CROSTHWAITE, AND HIS BELOVED SON JASON. SERGEANT CROSTHWAITE JOINED THE LOS ANGELES COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT ON FEBRUARY 17, 1988. HE HONORABLY SERVED THE DEPARTMENT AND THE RESIDENTS OF LOS ANGELES COUNTY FOR OVER 34 YEARS. SANDY WAS LARGER THAN LIFE, FUNNY, TRUSTED, AND A BRIGHT LIGHT IN AN OFTEN DARK WORLD. HE TOUCHED COUNTLESS LIVES DURING HIS TIME WITH THE DEPARTMENT AND HE MADE A HUGE IMPACT ON SO MANY. HE WAS A DEDICATED EMPLOYEE WHO WAS DEEPLY COMMITTED TO BOTH OFFICER AND PUBLIC SAFETY. HE MADE A LASTING IMPRESSION ON ALL THOSE WHO WERE LUCKY ENOUGH TO WORK WITH OR KNOW HIM AND HE WILL BE DEEPLY MISSED. FUNERAL INFORMATION WILL FOLLOW. NOTHING WILL EVER BRING SANDY BACK, BUT WE HOPE IT IS COMFORTING TO KNOW THAT HE WILL LIVE ON IN ALL OUR HEARTS. PLEASE KEEP SANDY, THE ENTIRE CROSTHWAITE FAMILY, AND ALL THOSE WHO KNEW AND LOVED HIM IN YOUR THOUGHTS AND PRAYERS. THE CROSTHWAITE FAMILY WOULD LIKE TO REMIND EVERYONE THAT IF YOU OR SOMEONE YOU KNOW IS STRUGGLING OR IN CRISIS, PLEASE KNOW THAT YOU ARE NOT ALONE. HELP IS ALWAYS AVAILABLE. Thank You
In Memory of Sandy CrosthwaiteI usually don’t do this, but I truly feel inclined to post this.We lost a good man, a good friend, and a good human being this week to suicide. Harvey “Sandy” Crosthwaite, someone I had been friends with for almost 50 years, took his own life this week. I feel horrible about it and only wish that I could have done something to help him during his time of need.We may never know the reasons behind his decision, but I want everyone to know who has ever contemplated taking their own life that there are other options. It only takes a phone call, a text, or any kind of ask for help, and your good friends will be there for you.I am so sorry, Sandy, if you felt that you were all alone in your troubles, my friend. I pray that you are no longer in pain and that you are at peace. You were a good man who served Los Angeles County for more than 30 years as a Deputy Sheriff and retired as a Sergeant. You did great things throughout your career and made an impact on countless lives. You were a true professional who reflected the highest standards of the LASD and made a difference in every community where you worked. You were also an amazing softball player and played for one of the best law enforcement teams ever assembled, the LASD Red Team. Although I played on an LAPD team against you, it was always a pleasure being on the field with you in friendly competition.Sandog, we have known each other since growing up together in Little League, junior high school, high school baseball, and college baseball. I always appreciated you and the friendship we shared. As one of our classmates Manny Crovetto said in a text, you were always a “Gentle Giant,” and you were respected by so many. You may be gone now, but you will never be forgotten, my dear friend. We will see each other again in heaven, and you better save a spot for me on your softball team when I get there.Rest in peace, Sandy. You were one of the good ones. You will be missed, and you will always be remembered.
